Al-Qa’ida is finding it difficult to recruit young people, and, interestingly, the election of Barack Obama is a factor in that, because, whatever you think of him as a president, the fact of him shows young people that there is an alternative to killing yourself. —

I hope this is true.
Boxing Day means football, and even the rare chance to watch a live Newcastle game in reasonably high quality.
Toon up 2-1 against Sheffield Wednesday at the half, with Kevin Nolan and Shola Ameobi netting for Newcastle.
And, yes, they are wearing the glorious yellow kits today.

I would be happy were this to come through, but I’m not holding my breath with this band.
The snowstorm that blanketed the East Coast this weekend was so big, it is even impressive from space. NASA’s Aqua satellite took this image centered on Washington, D.C., on Sunday with its MODIS instrument. (via Wired)
Well now. That is plenty cool.
Tee of the Day: “Obama vs. Zombies” by Chris Piers for Etsy seller Tina Seamonster.
“Some days we just want to see Obama hit a zombie in the face.”
Some days = those ending in “y.”

Point of clarification: Obama’s a lefty.
This is Cody, who acted like a dog, purred constantly and liked to sit in plants. She was a great cat for eight years, and was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor on her heart one year ago today.
I miss her very much.
I was really excited to hear U.S. Sen. John McCain come out in favor of a robust public option in the health care reform bill while he was speaking on the Senate floor Thursday. His declaration that he stands firmly with former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean is a stunning step toward the spirit of bipartisanship he espoused throughout the country in 2008 during his campaign for the presidency.
I hope media outlets in Washington and elsewhere will commend the senator on standing up for the millions of uninsured who are certain to be hurt by the Senate legislation as it stands, and hold him to his commitment to be 100 percent with Gov. Dean as the debate progresses in the coming days.
